Hail and Your Windows
Hail is a regular part of spring and summer storms in Central Iowa. Windows, screens and trim take a beating that isn't always obvious.

What to look for up close
From inside, run a hand over the glass for chips you can feel. Outside, look along the top of sills and the capping on the sunny and windward sides of the house, which usually take the most hits. Check skylights and basement window well covers too.
Siding and gutters
Dents in gutters, downspouts and siding on the same side of the house are good clues that the windows were hit as well.
Timing repairs
After big storms, window companies get busy and replacement glass is made to order, so request an assessment soon and keep broken openings covered in the meantime.
