Clive is a city of 18,601 people (2020) in Dallas and Polk counties, at the center of the western suburbs between Urbandale, Waukee and West Des Moines. It's known for its Greenbelt Park and trails.

Coal and rail

Clive was platted in 1882 but didn't incorporate until August 18, 1956. It began as a coal mining town and a shipping point on the St. Louis-Des Moines Northern Railway, and the 1882 depot has been restored next to the 1911 Swanson House, home of the Clive Historical Society.
